In the novel, "The Golden Notebook", the main character, Sofia, is left as a baby on a hospital doorstep by her mother. When she gets older, she has a beautiful notebook with all of her feelings and thoughts in it. Her father gives her a name for the notebook but it is only used when she is talking to her mother. All of the other people in the book don't know her real name.

It was a way to make her feel not so alone. A name can give you something you do not have otherwise.
